CURRENT OPEN POSITIONS

MARINE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR AND YARD CREW - FULL TIME (SOUTHPORT)

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for all aspects of marine equipment operation and routine maintenance; general boat yard labor including but not limited to, launching, and hauling of boats and docks; provide maintenance support to the Facilities/Maintenance Manager as requested.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES (may include but are not limited to)

  • Operation of equipment to launch and haul power and sail boats of various sizes.

  • Operation of equipment to move, place and store boats of various sizes on blocks and stands indoors and outdoors.

  • Assisting with stepping/un-stepping masts and engine re powers.

  • Operating fork trucks to transport materials, move boats.

  • Towing and moving vessels over land to Hodgdon facilities and other locations as necessary.

  • Performing the basic daily maintenance/service requirements of all Hodgdon equipment.

  • Performing tasks requested by the Facilities/Maintenance Manager at any of the Hodgdon facilities (Includes sweeping, washing, painting, constructing, transportation, dock repair, etc.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Heavy equipment operation experience preferred but not required. Training will be provided where necessary.

  • Must be able to follow directions and work well within large groups of people.

  • Must be able to meet the requirements of the schedule, i.e. being at work as scheduled and on time.

  • Ability to wear a respirator when required.

  • Must wear personal protection equipment.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Marine travel lift

  • Negative lift forklift

  • Diesel and LP forklifts

  • Grinders/sanders/polishers and other various power/battery operated hand tools

  • Company vehicles (trucks, vans, etc.)

  • Other equipment as provided and necessary

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Outdoors most of the time

  • Occasional extreme indoor and outdoor temperatures.

  • Exposure to various elevations.

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Flexibility to work in the standing, squatting, or kneeling position, as well as reaching overhead with occasional twisting and bending while performing any tasks.

  • Stair and ladder climbing are required.

  • Ability to work in small spaces.

  • Minimal lifting required above 50 lbs.

 

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

  • Schedule is Monday-Thursday from 6am to 430pm.

  • Spring, Fall and from time to time it may be necessary to work additional shifts or on weekends. Advance notice of not less than 24 hours will be provided for required overtime shifts or schedule changes.

  • Must work as part of a team.

  • Must be punctual.

MARINE SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN - FULL TIME (SOUTHPORT)

Job Summary:  Marine Systems Technician position includes but is not limited to repair and service on all types of marine engines, both gasoline and diesel, with an emphasis on diesel inboard, stern drive, and generator applications.  


Major Responsibilities/Activities: Duties include commissioning/decommissioning, troubleshooting and repair of water systems, engines, refrigeration systems, AC and DC heating/cooling systems, electrical systems and heads. Working with Service Managers to provide estimates for system upgrades and repairs typical to marine systems. Ability to research in catalogs, on-line, through dealer portals and service/parts manuals and computer sources is preferred.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Extensive experience with marine engines, electronics and boat systems on vessels up to 65 feet.

  • Must have strong attention to detail and maintain cleanliness on projects both during and upon completion.

  • Must be able to work independently and have high quality work ethic.

  • Must be a self-starter, able to manage projects on your own and have excellent customer service skills with the ability to effectively communicate directly with customers and service managers.

 

Education Requirements: Some level of American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) certification and/or any manufacturer training preferred.


Essential Mental Functions: Contact with customers is often necessary and therefore employees are expected to be courteous and follow uniform rules. Customers may not direct employees to perform any unauthorized work; all additions to any work orders must be approved by Service Managers.

Essential Physical Functions: A job placement assessment is required for all new hires.


Working Conditions: Working on and around boats requires extra attention to safety. Protection of the work area for both the boat, customers and employees is always required. Protection/safety products are available to the employees and are located in the main building.


Equipment Used: The Boatyard requires Mechanics to bring with them all the necessary tools to perform the work outlined above. Specialty tools are provided by Hodgdon and are to be taken care of and returned when a job is completed. A space will be provided for storage of employee’s tools and an area for shop work. The employee is expected to keep that area clean at all times and follow the Yard’s Safety and Waste Disposal Policies.

FACILITIES ASSISTANT - FULL OR PART TIME (SOUTHPORT AND DAMARISCOTTA)

Department: Facilities - FLSA Status: Non-Exempt - Job Type: Regular - Job Status: Full Time or Part Time

Reports To: Facilities Manager - Positions Supervised: None

Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting the Facilities Manager with the maintenance of all facilities, including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and heating systems, safety of all facilities and in-house construction and repair. Special emphasis is given to cleanliness and orderly appearance of buildings, vehicles, ramps, floats, and grounds.

 

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Assist with equipment and facilities maintenance

  • Assist with maintenance of production equipment such as air compressors, vacuum pumps, woodworking equipment, etc.

  • Assist with grounds and marina maintenance

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair methods

  • Ability to repair tools and equipment

  • Must have valid driver’s license

  • Basic hand tools are required

  • Must wear personal protection equipment as required, including a respirator

  • Must abide by safety policies and procedures

 

Essential Mental Functions:

  • Understanding basic measurements

  • Flexibility to change assignments depending upon organization needs

  • Ability to troubleshoot

 

Equipment Used:

  • Fork lift

  • Pallet jack

  • Hand and power tools

  • Boom lift

  • Scissor lift

  • Other tools and equipment as required

Additional Comments:

Work schedule is generally 6:00am-4:30pm four days per week. From time to time, it may be necessary to work additional shifts or on weekends. Day travel to various regional company locations required.

MARINE FINISHER/PAINTER (SOUTHPORT AND DAMARISCOTTA)

Department: Finish/Paint - FLSA Status: Non-Exempt - Job Type: Regular - Job Status: Full Time

Reports To: Finish Supervisor - Positions Supervised: None

Position Summary:

Responsible for all surface preparations and coating of the vessel, as well as preparing and finishing interior and exterior furniture.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Responsible for all surface preparations and coating of the vessel, including fairing, sanding, varnishing, painting, spraying and other finishing procedures.

  • Prepare and finish interior and exterior furniture, joiner work and other components of the vessel

  • Prepare and apply epoxy, linier polyurethanes, and other chemical applications

  • Involved with supervising a small crew of painters

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in marine finishing preferred, including application of linier polyurethanes, or in high-end auto body shop finishing

  • Must be familiar with brush and spray applications with strong emphasis on spraying skills using Awlgrip on hulls and decks

  • Must have a keen understanding of the safety hazards and know how to work safely

  • Responsible for understanding and exhibiting excellent work standards

  • Attention to the highest quality standards is essential

  • Must be team player

  • Must wear personal safety equipment as required

  • Must be able to wear a respirator

  • Must be able to meet the requirements of the schedule, i.e. must be at work as scheduled and must be on time

  • Basic painter’s hand tools are required

 

Essential Mental Functions:

  • Basic mathematic skills

  • Ability to read and understand paint mixing formulas

Equipment Used:

  • Paint brushes

  • Paint sprayer, i.e. electric airless, conventional HVLP

  • Basic painter’s hand tools, i.e. scrapers

 

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Flexibility to work in standing, squatting, or kneeling positions, as well as reaching overhead with twisting and bending while performing any of the above tasks

  • Stair and ladder climbing is required and must have no fear of heights

  • Ability to work in small spaces

  • Ability to work with epoxy and other chemical applications

  • Minimal lifting above 25 lbs.

BOAT BUILDER (DAMARISCOTTA)

Position Summary:

Individuals perform a wide variety of boat building tasks related to wood/composite tenders, including, but not limited to, fabricating/ fitting composite components, installation of deck hardware, hatches, and windows.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Perform a wide variety of boat building tasks related to wood/composite yachts

  • Fabricating/ fitting composite components, installing deck hardware, hinges, latches, and handrails.

  • Sets and operates a variety of woodworking machines, including power and hand tools

  • Must be intensely aware of quality standards

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3-4 years of experience, or equivalent training and experience

  • Ability to work with power and hand tools, Drilling screwing, sanding, etc.

  • Ability to work within close tolerances, +- 1-2mm

  • Ability to work with large power tools such as band saws, planers, table saws

  • Work with epoxy, resins and glues

  • Must be able to follow directions and work well within large groups of people

  • Must be able to meet the requirements of the schedule

  • Ability to wear a respirator as required

  • Must wear personal protection equipment

  • Must have basic hand tools

  • Works ‘hands on’ on multiple projects

Equipment Used:

  • Band saws

  • Drill press

  • Table saws

  • Misc. hand tools, drill, router reciprocating saw

 

Working Conditions:

  • Occasional extreme indoor temperature, adverse ventilation conditions (chemicals, dust)

  • Rare extreme heights, extreme outdoor temperatures, adverse ventilation conditions (fumes), use of a respirator/face mask

MARINE SYSTEMS INSTALLER (DAMARISCOTTA)

Department: Tenders - FLSA Status: Non-Exempt - Job Type: Systems and Electrical Design and Installation 

Job Status: Full Time - Reports To: Marine Systems Supervisor - Positions Supervised: None

Position Summary:

Responsible for the installation of electrical systems including navigation and computer components and may include custom metal fabrication, light machining and wood working for newly constructed vessels. Works with the Marine Systems Supervisor to ensure work schedules and timelines are up to date and being met.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Responsible for the installation of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and other systems

  • Ability to operate band saw, table saw, lathe, grinder/sander, drill press and hand tools.

  • May be required to perform tasks including custom metal fabrication, light machining, wiring and woodworking.

  • Ability to work within close tolerances and in small, confined spaces

Minimum Requirements:

  • Marine system experience or equivalent education and experience

  • An understanding of 3-phase AC generation systems, AC switchboard control systems and DC charging and distribution systems

  • Ability to work with hand and power tools

  • Must be able to meet the requirements of the schedule and be a team player

  • Must be able to wear personal protective gear

 

Essential Mental Functions:

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints

  • Ability to perform basic calculations

  • Must be self-motivated, quality conscious and detail oriented

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Must be able to work in the standing, squatting or kneeling positions. Must be able to reach overhead with frequent twisting and bending.

  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders and not have a fear of heights or confined spaces.

  • Minimal lifting required above 75 lbs.

COMPOSITE TECHNICIAN (DAMARISCOTTA)

Department: Tenders - FLSA Status: Non-Exempt - Job Type: Regular

Job Status: Full Time - Reports To: Composites Supervisor - Positions Supervised: None

Position Summary:

Responsible for all phases of composite boat construction. Works with the Composites Supervisor to ensure work schedules and timelines are up to date and being met.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Female/male mold assembly to include filling and fairing joint seams and applying mold release wax

  • Kit fabrication involving cutting fabric to desired sizes, direction

  • Material lay-up and installation of peel ply, fabrics, flow media, vacuum and feeder lines

  • Mixing of resin materials by weight/volume

  • Infusion monitoring for temperature, vacuum infusion and time of infusion

  • Modular installation of infused pieces for bulkheads, floor systems, decks and pilothouse

  • Finishing, trimming and fitting of composite parts

  • Some wet lay-up and wet preg is required for secondary bonding and tabbing

  • Grinding and sanding for secondary bonding

  • Works ‘hands on’ on multiple projects

Minimum Requirements:

  • Prior experience working with composites

  • Basic carpentry skills for staging and platform construction, templates and molds and cutting and fitting pieces

  • Must be able to wear a respirator

  • Must be able to meet the requirements of the work schedule

  • Must be able to use measuring tools

Essential Mental Functions:

  • Working productively and cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors is an essential part of the job.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

  • Basic mathematical skills

  • Attention to detail, following established procedures

  • Ability to read plans and blueprints

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Flexibility to work in standing, squatting, or kneeling positions, as well as reaching overhead with occasional twisting and bending while performing any of the above tasks

  • Stair and ladder climbing is required

  • Ability to work with epoxy/vinyl ester/polyester resins and adhesives

  • Ability to work in small spaces as required

  • Minimal lifting required above 75lbs.

  • May be required to travel both domestic and internationally to perform Tender service and maintenance
