Launched: 1990 Length: 31' Designer: Bruce King Rooster is the ultimate wooden speedboat. Her design reflects the classic lake boats, but she is optimized for ocean running. The hull is not fastened with screws and thus there are no bungs. This gives a very clean look, unlike the speedboats of the 1920's and 1930's. The joinery work is the finest one could find. Planking the hull was quite a challenge since this is a complicated hull shape. First the brightly finished planks had to appear to correctly follow the sheer from bow to stern. Second, there could be no visible fastenings. It made sense to vacuum bag the planks, and each plank was set and held in place with removable wedges until the vacuum bag got to the required pressure. The end result is the beautifully fair mahogany hull that rips along at 60 knots.
