![]() November 8, 2005 East Boothbay, ME - A new, customizable cruising yacht is being offered at Hodgdon Yachts in East Boothbay, Maine. Conceived as a semi-production blue-water cruiser, the Hodgdon 105 fills the need for a world-class vessel that lies somewhere between a pure production model and a pure-custom design. It's longer than most production vessels, which typically measure less than 70 feet. But it's more modest than most custom builds, many of which exceed 120 feet. What's more, it can be customized to suit the individual buyer's tastes and cruising habits. Hodgdon and the well-known Fontaine Design Group collaborated for the first time to create the 105. Company literature calls the 105 "the unification of all that is wonderful about a proven design-predictably wonderful performance, approachable financials, diversity of abilities-and the desire most owners have to make a yacht completely his own. The vessel is available as either ketch or sloop; its shoal draft gives it the flexibility to handle shallow New England anchorages and open-ocean cruising with equal aplomb. In a related project, Hodgdon builders are fabricating a 105-type hull for a 98-foot ketch customized to suit an experienced yachting family. The Fontaine design is the 406th vessel to be built at the Maine yard since its founding in 1816, and the largest sailing yacht currently under construction in the United States. Classically inspired yet technologically cutting-edge, the 406 is distinctively Hodgdon. Above her cold-molded, composite hull, carbon-fiber masts and stowaway booms reduce weight aloft and deliver optimum sail handling. Behind the scenes, state-of-the-art hydraulic, electrical, water, and ventilation systems deliver ultimate reliability and ease of maintenance. |
