Hodgdon Yachts adds semi-custom 62' sloop to lineup

June 16, 2006
East Boothbay, Maine - Hodgdon Yachts of East Boothbay, Maine, is adding a semi-custom line of boats to its existing custom boatbuilding business.

The new 62' Café Racer - a collaboration of Tripp Design and Hodgdon Yachts Engineering - is a modern sailing yacht designed for fast extended cruising in open water. Hodgdon Yachts defines the Café Racer as "an intriguing design intersection where speed, architecture and quality of living find an alluring balance."

The new sloop is designed for the owner who wants a modern yacht demonstrating comfort and style, uncompromised workmanship and exhilarating performance. Featuring a slender, easily driven hull shape, the Café Racer will prove both seakindly and very fast, and will be equally at home on the race course or in a snug harbor.

The Hodgdon/Tripp partnership highlights the prominent characteristics each firm brings to the table: the luxury yachtbuilder's reputation for superior finish work, advanced engineering and state-of-the-art hull technology, and the designer's distinction for modern hull lines, elegant interiors and powerful sail plans.

The Café Racer's construction utilizes Hodgdon Yacht's Cold-Molded Composite Infusion (CMCI) process, featuring a cold-molded structure with infused carbon fiber hull plating. The wooden interior not only lends elegance, but the flexibility to adapt to the hull form as well, while the cored carbon skin ensures that the racer will be light and responsive. Three cabins provide comfortable accommodations for owner and guests with all the amenities one expects in a luxury yacht. The lifting keel provides access to favorite snug anchorages, and the powerful sail plan, advanced hull design and efficient hydrodynamic foil create a competitive and exciting racing vessel.
