April 7, 2009
East Boothbay, Maine - Senator Collins and Admiral Allen continued their tour of Maine's Shipbuilding capacity when they visited Hodgdon Yachts' production facility in East Boothbay, Maine this afternoon.
"It is a tremendous honor to have Senator Collins and Admiral Allen visit our yard." stated Timothy S. Hodgdon, President of Hodgdon Yachts. "Since Senator Collins is the ranking member of the Senate Committee for Homeland Security and Admiral Allen leads the largest component of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) we are pleased and honored to show them the state-of the art, advanced composite construction methods we use to build our vessels."
In 2008 Hodgdon Yachts launched MAKO a technology demonstrator for the U.S. Navy's office of Naval Research, the success and acceptance of this vessel by the US Navy was a significant milestone for Hodgdon Defense Composites (HDC), an affiliate of Hodgdon Yachts Inc. Today HDC is one of the companies being considered to deliver a prototype of the CCM, if awarded a contract for the vessel, the men and women of Hodgdon Yachts will build the prototype.
Hodgdon Yachts is committed to building prototype or custom one-off vessels to the highest quality that meet and exceed the classification standards and their client's expectations. HYI's advanced composite infusion process is also extremely well suited for the high standards of the USCG.
The possibility of delivering an advanced composite vessel to the USCG is a tremendous opportunity for Hodgdon Yachts. HYI is honored to be a significant part of the long and proud tradition of Maine shipbuilding having launched 407 vessels since 1816, including vessels delivered to the US Navy during both WWII and the Korean War.
Today we are thrilled to have Senator Collins bring Admiral Allen to our yard so he can see first hand the skills, resources, construction methods and work ethic of the Hodgdon Yachts team.
